| Attending The Newbury Show, now known as the Royal County of Berkshire Agricultural Show, has memories set deep in my childhood. For me, as a townie, this was as close to a farm animal as it gets. The pride and care that goes into exhibiting the best of cattle breeds is magnificent to see. Thinking about it now I’m immediately able to bring the smell of September field grass and cattle to mind. Romance aside, farming is about providing food and this piece is about beef. Exhibiting at the Newbury Show one year, was a Belgian Blue Bull with musculature and volume that had onlookers struck still in awe. This had to be my next bronze. This piece is also poignant as it brings to mind memories of my late father, and the pleasure he had in taking his family to the show, and the memories of Sunday roast beef too. | |
